forklift truck

(logistics) A highly maneuverable utility vehicle designed to move loaded pallets or skids in warehouses and manufacturing plants. Forklift trucks feature two long prongs (forks) that extend from the front of the vehicle and fit under or into openings at the bottom of a pallet or skid. These prongs can be raised, lowered or tilted to secure, move, raise, lower and position the loaded pallet in warehouse racks, containers, trucks or other vehicles. Special forklifts can handle very heavy weights and access high shelving. See pallet; skid.
