(economics) (a) The sourcing of raw materials, component parts or finished goods from outside a business organization. The opposite of insourcing. (b) The contracting of services (such as call center services, software development or maintenance services) to an outside company. (c) The contracting of services (such as call center services) to an outside company located in a foreign country.
