(People’s Republic of China) Literally “people’s currency.” The official currency of China, issued by the Central Bank of China. As of January 1, 1994, China’s dual currency system of RMB and FEC (Foreign Exchange Certificate) was united in a step toward making the RMB more freely convertible and bringing its exchange rate closer to market value.
