(law) A legal action for recovering property brought by the owner or party entitled to repossess the property against a party who has wrongfully kept it. A seller that furnishes products to a sales representative on consignment, for example, may sue for replevin if the sales representative wrongfully retains products not sold at the end of the term of the consignment agreement.
