skid

(logistics/transportation) A portable platform supported by two parallel runners that elevate the platform so that the prongs of a forklift truck can fit underneath. Skids made be made from wood, plastic, fiberglass, steel, or aluminum. Skids are used to store, handle and move materials, and goods in factories, warehouses, containers and vessels. A skid is different from a pallet in that it is generally higher and does not have additional cross member support beneath the runners. See pallet, forklift.
