transloading

(shipping/logistics) The process of transferring a shipment from one mode of transportation to another. For example, in multi-modal shipments, transloading occurs when a shipment is transferred from a train to an ocean-going vessel. Also used to describe the process of transferring cargo from domestic to international shipping containers. See also transshipment.
