United States Department of Transportation (DOT)

(U.S. government) An executive department of the U.S. government established by the Department of Transportation Act of 1966 (80 Stat 931) for the purpose of developing national transportation policies. Organizations within the Department of Transportation include the Federal Aviation Administration, the Federal Highway Administration, the Federal Railroad Administration, the Federal Transit Administration, the Maritime Administration, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the Research and Special Programs Administration, the St. Lawrence Seaway Development Corporation, and the U.S. Coast Guard.
