Tariff Update
Trump has announced trade deals with Japan and Indonesia.
Upcoming: The August 1st deadline, where the Trump administration has implied the Liberation Day tariffs will resume is coming up.
What’s important:
- A 90-day reprieve on the April 2nd tariffs (10% blanket + country-specific) will end August 1st, even though originally was supposed to end July 8th.
- The U.S. is negotiating trade deals with 18 countries; only the U.S.-UK and Vietnam deal is finalized.
- Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent indicated the U.S. may extend reprieve for countries negotiating in “good faith.”
