The White House announced on Saturday, February 1st that the US will implement 25% tariffs on goods with Mexican Country of Origin. Since then, there has been a reprieve on USMCA goods and a reduction for Potash to 10%.

The US has made an exemption on tariffs for Mexico origin goods that qualify for USMCA and Potash will be tariffed at 10% instead of 25%. This begins at 12:01 AM ET March 7, 2025.

US Customs and Border Protection has stated certain goods that should now go through formal clearance can still qualify under de minimis entry until the proper systems are in place to collect the required duties, taxes and fees. Tariffs still apply.

Mexico and the US meet and suspend implementation of US tariffs by 30 days.

The US proposed 25% tariffs on goods with Mexico and Canadian Countries of Origin; additionally 10% tariffs on Chinese Country of Origin goods.

USMCA goods

Temporary reprieve until April 2nd

The new HTSUS classification applies to products that qualify for USMCA: 9903.01.04: Articles that are entered free of duty under the terms of general note 11 to the HTSUS, including any treatment set forth in subchapter XXIII of chapter 98 and subchapter XXII of chapter 99 of the HTS, as related to the USMCA.
