Shipping with DDP (Deliver Duties Paid)
Overview
FlavorCloud defaults to DDP (Delivered Duties Paid) for all international shipments unless you specifically configure DDU (Delivered Duty Unpaid) or the destination country only allows DDU.
With DDP, all applicable duties and taxes are calculated and collected at checkout. This ensures your customer knows the full landed cost of their purchase upfront, avoids surprise customs charges, and reduces refused or returned shipments.
Confirming DDP is enabled
- In your FlavorCloud account, go to Settings.
- Navigate to the Shipping section.
- Verify that your preferred shipping service levels (e.g., Standard, Express) are selected.
- Ensure that DDP is selected as the default term of service for duty and tax collection.
Why use DDP?
- Cost transparency: Customers see and pay the full landed cost (duties + taxes) at checkout.
- Fewer delivery issues: Packages are less likely to be delayed or refused due to unpaid customs charges.
- Higher conversion: Studies show customers are more likely to complete checkout when costs are clear upfront.
- Better brand experience: Customers receive their orders without surprise fees or unexpected courier collection.
When DDP may not apply
Some countries either do not accept DDP shipments or have carrier restrictions that require DDU. If the destination country is on this list, FlavorCloud will automatically switch to DDU.
See the DDU shipping help article for a complete list of countries and details.
FAQs
What if I want to offer both DDP and DDU at checkout?
You can configure your account to allow customers to choose, though we recommend keeping DDP as the default option.
Does DDP affect shipping speed?
No. DDP only changes when and how duties/taxes are collected. Transit time is based on the service level (Standard, Express).
Will my customers see duties and taxes broken out separately?
Yes. The checkout display shows product price, shipping cost, and duty/tax amounts.
✅ Tip: Unless you have a specific business reason to ship DDU, we strongly recommend keeping DDP as your default to maximize transparency and customer satisfaction.
